VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - Valdosta Police are trying to figure out exactly why a man was stabbed to death early Tuesday morning by his girlfriend.
41 year-old Zantelyterrio Hardy was stabbed once in the torso at his girlfriend's home in the 1200 block of Tracy Lane around 1:15 a.m.
Witnesses told police that the two had gotten into a domestic dispute prior to the stabbing, and the girlfriend claimed she stabbed Hardy out of self defense. As of Tuesday afternoon, she isn't facing any charges but investigators are working with the DA's office to determine what happened.
"[To] make sure we know everything that happened here and make an informed and a complete, receiving all the information, will make a solid and sound decision," explained Valdosta Police Chief Brian Childress.
Childress said children were present in the home at the time of the stabbing but would not specify whether the children actually witnessed the stabbing take place.
Hardy's girlfriend has been cooperating with investigators, and Childress said she is not considered a flight risk. Childress added that once an autopsy is complete on Hardy, investigators will meet with the DA's office and the medical examiner to determine if criminal charges will be filed.
