VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - Valdosta Police are looking for the driver who abandoned his truck just before it was hit by a train on Baytree Road early this morning.
Police say just after 12:30 a.m., a white Ford F-150 was headed West on Baytree. The driver of the truck drove around the crossing bars that had just come down to indicate that a train was approaching.
Witnesses told police they saw the driver get out of the truck and leave the area on foot and then moments later the oncoming train collided with the bed of the truck on the passenger side.
No injuries were reported from the crash. Police say the truck had a Florida license plate, but the initial investigation of the crash led officers to believe that the owner of the truck may live in Lake Park.
As of 5 p.m. Tuesday, investigators had not determined if the owner of the truck was the one driving at the time of the crash. If you have any information, contact the Valdosta Police Department.
