Man blows through checkpoint, leads troopers on high-speed chase

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

A Valdosta man is in jail after troopers with Georgia State Patrol said he drove straight through a checkpoint, then led them on a high-speed chase.

Thomas Grantham is charged with theft by taking - motor vehicle, driving with a suspended licence, weaving, and a suspended registration.

It happened around midnight Friday. Authorities said Grantham was driving a ChevroletSuburbanm along Highway 133 when he approached the checkpoint.

According to a report, Grantham started to drive recklessly, then drove straight through the checkpoint, starting a pursuit with troopers.

They chased him until he ran over stop sticks and crashed near Pauline Church Road, where he got out and ran away.

Troopers were not able to find him that night.

Grantham was later arrested around 12:30 p.m. Saturday when Lowndes County Sheriff's deputies were called to a domestic dispute near InnerPerimeterr Road.

Officials later learned the SUV was stolen from a friend's house.
