LEESBURG, GA (WALB) - Elementary school students in Lee County got a chance to meet local farmers Friday at school. The Southwest Georgia Project hosted the event for National Food Day.
Students were able to learn all about agriculture and food from farmers and high school Ag students. The event works well with the nationwide "Farm to School" initiative.
"We want to make sure that we provide our students with healthy food, fresh food, and local food from right here in their backyard. The students get a chance to meet their farmers and really understand where their food comes from," said Assistant Director of the Southwest Georgia Project Daaiyah Salaam.
Students could participate in cooking demonstrations, taste tests, and were also able to interact with different animals.
