VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - Valdosta Police are trying to track down two men who forced their way into a home late Thursday night and robbed the family inside at gunpoint.
Around 11 p.m., 34 year-old Dustin King and his wife, 33 year-old Tabitha king, were in their home along with four children at 729 E. Brookwood Dr. when someone knocked at their door. "[They] opened the door, the resident saw a weapon pointed at him. At that point, tried to close the door but the person forcefully opened the door; pushed the door open. They came into the residence at that time," explained Valdosta Police Department Captain Bobbi McGraw.
VPD would not release the names of the two children Friday morning, only saying that one was approximately nine years old.
McGraw said detectives canvassed the neighborhood Thursday night for clues, but as of Friday morning it was still unclear whether the home was targeted. "We're really not sure," McGraw said. "We don't have any reason to believe they were targeted for any reason until our investigators look into it a little bit further."
The suspects had their faces covered and are only described as two black men. No one was hurt, but the suspects did get away with more than $1,800 in cash and then ran off. McGraw recommends trying to talk to someone through the door if you don't know who it is, especially late at night.
"If somebody's screamin' 'help, help, help!', you've got your phone, you're dialin' 911 and you're tellin' 'em 'I'm gettin' you help, I'm gettin' you help!'," McGraw explained. "But, as far as it being safe for you to open the door, especially late at night, I would have some reservations about that."
