THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - Thomasville Police are investigating multiple complaints of theft at the Laurel Hill Cemetery.
Police got a call Wednesday afternoon after a woman noticed the artificial flowers from her grandfather's, grandmother's, and father's graves were missing.
Police said she also noticed more flowers missing from surrounding graves.
Police said this crime isn't mainly about the stolen property, but about victims feeling as though these sacred places have been violated.
Major Eric Hampton said, “It's a felony anytime you disturb anything where someone has passed away. Whether in a sacred place where somebody has been buried, or removing items or damaging items in a cemetery.”
Police patrol the cemetery on a daily basis and ask anyone with information regarding these thefts to call the Thomasville Police.
