ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Firefighters from across the state came to Albany today to learn about some of the latest hazmat equipment.
Dozens of Firefighters from across Georgia came to the Albany Fire Training Center, where they were trained on the Hazmat Chemical Identification System.
The system allows firefighters to test and identify the substance at a spill, and determine if it's hazardous more easily and quickly.
"There is really no room for gambling or guesswork when it comes to hazardous materials response. It's in a timely fashion you have to know what the substance is. Once you know what it is, you know how to dress to mitigate the problem," said Dan Keenan, GEMA Hazardous Materials Instructor
Keenan is the hazardous material instructor for the Oakland Fire Department and was hired by GEMA to lead the training in Albany today.
