Concerned parents put a hold on moving students to gifted program

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Some concerned parents have put a hold on moving a Dougherty County gifted program.

The Dougherty County School Board today tabled a proposed plan to move the gifted program at Merry Acres Middle School to Robert Cross Middle School.

Superintendent Dr. David Mosely said the move will help ease overcrowding at Merry Acres Middle School.

Some parents are concern about how the gifted program would change at Robert Cross which is a magnet school.

"And I want to make sure that we don't dilute either of those programs when we put them in the same building. And to make sure that we can have a discipline and a program that benefits children who learn this way and children who learn this way,” said Maryann Plowden, Parent.

Board members plan to address all the concerns and questions before voting on the proposal.
