Tifton police search for thieves that took gurneys

TIFTON, GA (WALB) -

Tifton Police are on the lookout for thieves who stole gurneys from several funeral homes.

Tifton police said over the weekend a gurney was stolen out of a hearse at the Albritten-Beaumont Funeral home.

There have also been gurney thefts at funeral homes in Berrien and Cook County. Police also said the hearses were either unlocked or thieves broke out the windows to get the cots. Police hope funeral homes and metal companies will notify them if these gurneys are being put up for sell.

“They actually have serial numbers on them so they keep track of them. I don't know if they're going to scrap metal or be sold to other funeral homes,” said Sgt. Dorminey McCray, Tifton Police Department.

Tifton police are in contact with police in Berrien and Cook County.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Tifton Police Department.
