ALBANY, GA (WALB) - City and County commissioners are continuing to search to find a place to build a new sports complex in Albany.
Right now youth who play baseball or softball mainly play at the Gordon Sports Complex, but County Commissioners say a bigger complex with more fields and acreage could be a great economic driver for the city and the county.
The city handles recreation in the shared services agreement but the county commission wants to help in this project.
"Those folks who are involved in travel softball, soccer, or tennis and various sports, that have been to other recreational complexes and centers in other towns in the Southeast knows what it does relative to the children. Gives them so much other avenues, not to mention the economic impact," says Dougherty County Chairman Jeff Sinyard.
County commissioners have sent a letter to the city commission asking to be part of the proposed recreation complex.
