City and county leaders compete to help Worth Elementary win food drive

WORTH CO., GA (WALB) - Worth County Elementary School needs your help to win a canned food drive.

The school is participating in the Atlanta Falcon ...FalCan Food Drive for the second year in a row. Sylvester Police and Fire departments is challenging the Worth County Sheriff's Office and Fire to see who can raise the most canned goods to help the school. The winner will receive the Golden Can Award from WCES staff and students, and the loser will win a pie in the face!

Last year, Worth Elementary took first place in the state and donated over 16 thousand pounds of food to the South Georgia Food Bank to help those in need.

“We take for granted a lot of times how important a meal is and that's what we're trying to teach these young men and women,” said Ronnie Graddy.

“It gives them the opportunity to experience something they some of them never had the experience,” said Jeff Hobby.

If they win, they will go to an Atlanta Falcons game in November.

Any type of canned good or nonperishable food items can be donated to any of the following locations: Sylvester Police Department, Sylvester Fire Department, Worth County Sheriff's Department, or the Worth County Fire and Rescue Department. Donations are also being accepted at Worth County Elementary School. The contest runs until October 31st.
