Dougherty Co. police officer suspended when parked car injures woman

DOUGHERTY CO., GA (WALB) -

A Dougherty County Police officer has been suspended with pay after the patrol car he had been driving hit and injured a woman.

According to DCP incident reports, Officer Lynn Davis the Third's patrol car was parked with the engine running at a Halloween event on Fleming Road Friday night.

Davis was not in the car when it traveled forward and hit 33-year old Brandy Newsome.

Newsome was treated for her injuries at Phoebe Putney Hospital and then discharged.

Davis, who is described as veteran officer with the Dougherty County Police Department, will remain suspended pending the results of an internal investigation.

No criminal charges will be filed since the accident happened on private property.
