ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Albany police are doing their part to make sure people feel safe downtown.

The department has announced plans to increase foot patrols in the area 24 hours a day. It's an effort for them to be seen and heard by business owners and residents.

Deputy Chief Mark Scott says they want to show their commitment to the revitalization of downtown Albany.

"We want people to feel safe. A lot of people have a misconception about crime in the downtown area. Downtown Albany is probably one of the safest areas in the city. there's very little crime that happens in the downtown area," said Deputy Chief Mark Scott.

The foot patrol units will also use segways, bicycles and ATV's.
