DUBLIN, GA (WALB) - The Carl Vinson VA Medical Center has announced that it will host a Veterans Day Program on November 11 at 11 a.m. in its auditorium.
The annual program which includes a variety of participants from the local and middle Georgia community honors veterans and active duty military for their service to the nation. The program is hosted by XI Beta XI, and the master of ceremonies will be local business leader and Vietnam-era veteran Johnny Payne, and will include posting and retirement of the colors by Dublin High School Air Force ROTC.
Recitation of America's Creed and the Pledge of Allegiance will be led by Harriet Claxton of the Daughters of the American Revolution and introduction of the guest speaker will be made by associate medical center director Jay De Worth.
Medical center public affairs officer Dr. Frank G. Jordan Jr. extended an open invitation on behalf of the medical center to all who are interested in attending.
Originally known as Armistice Day after a presidential proclamation was signed by Presidential Woodrow Wilson in November 1919, in 1954 President Eisenhower signed a law proclaiming the observance as Veterans Day.
