ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Dougherty County Police is showing their appreciation for their officers through a luncheon.
The department held a cookout for law enforcers and their families at their headquarters. There was also a bounce house and games for the kids. Students in the Criminal Justice Program at Albany Tech volunteered to help with the games. It's a chance to show officers their appreciation for their hard work, and for their families to get to know one another.
"A lot of times these officers work different shifts and they don't get to spend time together, so we're trying to offer something for them to bring their families, get to meet each other and some of the other officers," said Capt. Tom Jackson, Dougherty County Police.
Capt. Jackson says they hope to make the luncheon an annual event around 9/11 to honor all first responders.
