PEARSON, GA (WALB) - The Hardee's in Pearson was one of three businesses burglarized early Friday morning.
"Hardee's was broke into. Pearson Tire and Lube was also broke into," said Pearson Police Chief John Clayton. Police said the suspect also broke into the CK Laundromat and popped off the door to the change machine and stole coins from inside.
Police were able to use surveillance video at Hardee's to identify the suspect who broke in there, and a short time later they found him crouched behind some bushes behind an abandoned house on Allen Avenue. "When we came up on him, he actually had started layin' down. So, we arrested him and went to talk with him and he had a pocket full of quarters," Chief Clayton explained.
Chief Clayton added that the suspect is a known criminal and had just been released from jail in Atkinson County earlier this week. While he hadn't been charged with anything as of Friday night, Chief Clayton believed charges would be filed soon and that believe more arrests would be made. "We're thinkin' that it could be actually two individuals. Right now, we do have one individual in custody and we feel very good about the individual that we do have in custody. He is cooperatin' with us," said Chief Clayton.
As of Friday night, nothing appeared to have been stolen from Hardee's, and only a few miscellaneous items were taken from Pearson Tire. Chief Clayton credits the small size of Pearson for helping make such a quick arrest. "You have a small town, that everybody knows everybody, it just makes my job a whole lot simpler," he pointed out.
Friday afternoon, Investigators were still working to recover the items stolen from Pearson Tire and anymore money that may have been stolen from the laundromat.
