THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - Archbold Memorial Hospital hosted the Medical Education Study Committee Wednesday to discuss ways to recruit and retain more physicians in South Georgia.
Hospitals are facing a continuing physician shortage and it's only predicted to get worse.
Archbold President and CEO Perry Mustian said the committee's main goal is to focus their efforts on education.
And a key issue is to attract physicians in order to provide quality care for rural counties.
Mustian said, “I think they need the opportunity to see this as a place where they want to stay and practice. We have nice facilities, we have very nice communities, we have a quality of life that you might not see in larger areas of the state. So I think we have a lot to offer.”
Mustian said Southwest Georgia needs to increase residency slots to attract more medical talent for the future.
