VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - Lowndes County now has an official Twitter account. The account went live Tuesday morning.
The goal is to help county officials distribute information such as meeting dates and emergency alerts to citizens faster, as well as make it easier for citizens to report complaints or notify officials about damage in the event of severe weather.
"We have started a Twitter account. It's part of the county's social media coordination into the county's new website that will be launched later this year," said Lowndes County PIO Paige Duke.
Duke said the account had around 25 followers within just a couple of hours of its launching. "We're excited about the addition of Twitter," said Duke. "It's just another tool in our communication toolbox and we hope that it's one our citizens will find valuable."
