David Smith honored as Firefighter of the Year

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Albany Firefighter David Smith is honored as Firefighter of the Year for his heroic actions during a house fire.

Smith helped Douglas Green back in June.

He was unconscious underneath a bed in a burning home. Smith performed rescue breathing until EMS arrived.

He says he couldn't of done it without the great training he's received and the work of his fellow firefighters who were there that day.

"It's a great honor and I couldn't of done any of what I'm getting honored for without my crew, and the training here at the Albany Fire DDepartment .They'vetrained me to where I can go in and do the searches and extinguish the fires and where I can save somebody,” says Firefighter David Smith.

Smith was honored by the Exchange Club last week and will be recognized at a city commission meeting in two weeks.
