MOULTRIE, GA (WALB) - A house fire at 1412 4th Ave. NE, sent a Moultrie man to a Florida hospital with severe burns, and food cooking on the stove is the likely cause.

Captain Lavon Cooper of the Moultrie Fire Department says that they were dispatched to a one story single family dwelling at about 12:55 Monday afternoon.

When crews arrived, they found a man with severe burn injuries in the front yard. He  was transported by helicopter to Shands Hospital in Florida.

A woman on the scene was carried by personal vehicle to Colquitt Regional Medical Center for evaluation.

Heavy fire damage was observed on the west end of the residence, and the structure had heavy smoke damage throughout.

The fire is under investigation, but unattended cooking appears to be the cause of the fire at this time.
