ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Early voting is now underway in Dougherty County.
Shanan and Jestine made sure they were some of the first to hit the polls at the Albany Government Center as Early elections kicked off Monday.
"I think it's the best thing to do," said Jestine McClendon, voter. "You know who you're going to vote for, so you mine as well go ahead and get it taken care of. "
Each of them took a quick break from their day to vote in what they believe are key races. "The governor, you have state races on there," said Ginger Nickerson, Supervisor of Elections. "We have a couple of local races for county commissioner. There's contested races, you have some that have already been decided. Senate races as well."
Organizers say the voter turnout already seems to be going well. They hope the momentum stays high and that voters come prepared. All you need is any of the 6 forms of valid identification. There is also staff and sample ballots on site to help you cast your vote.
Regardless of what's on the polls, Shanan and Justine say voting is a way to be an active part in your community. "We should all come out to vote regardless of when, the convenience that you have," said Shanan Heppard, voter. "Come out and vote on your lunch break or whenever."
You can vote at the Voter Registration and Elections Office inside the Government Center until the 31st. The Riverfront Resource center will also be open for voting Saturday the 25th and the 27th through the 31st.
