David Smith of the Albany Fire Department has received the Firefighter of the Year Award from the Exchange Club of Albany.
Exchange Club President, Carl Gluckert made the presentation after David was introduced by Assistant Chief Ron Rowe.
Smith has been with the Albany Fire Department for eight years and says he owes the award to his team. David received the award mainly because of his team's rescue of Douglas Green in a house fire.
Jessica Galvin is the E.M.T. of the Year, and is the first woman to ever receive the award.
Jessica received the award from Exchange Club President Carl Gluckert after she was introduced by Dougherty County's Medical Services Director, Greg Rowe.
Galvin was nominated for the award because of her heroic actions on September 2 of this year, after being called out to help a 21-year-old lightning victim who was having a cardiac arrest during a fierce storm.
