DOUGLAS, GA (WALB) - Officials with the City of Douglas say utility customers are being targeted by callers who claim to be bill collectors that say they are with the city.
According to a report, the person on the phone tells the citizen that they are calling to collect payment from an account that is 20-30+ years past due.
The City of Douglas reminds everyone they do not solicit households for payment for services through the telephone.
Citizens are urged not to release financial information to anyone claiming to be representing the City of Douglas.
To verify the identity of the person who is calling to collect on a previous utility bill, please contact the Customer Care Center by dialing 311 or (912) 384-3302.
If a citizen should receive such a call, please try to capture the phone number through Caller ID and report the phone number to the Customer Care Center representative.
