BAINBRIDGE, GA (WALB) - The newly renovated Jones-Wheat Elementary School finally opened its doors to students and teachers Thursday morning.

The building is not only twice the size of the old school, it also has improved technology and security.

Students couldn't wait to check out the interactive SMART boards in each classroom.

Teachers expect that the new high-tech equipment will keep students engaged.

Fourth Grade Teacher Elizabeth Hill said, “We have something that children can go up and put their hands on and move.  They're so used to iPads and tablets and everything at home.  And for us not to have had that at school, they were just bored.”

The school also stepped up its security with cameras, keypads, and shatter-proof windows around the entire building.
