ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Breast cancer can occur in any woman at any time in her life, even if there is no family history.
Self examinations and Mammograms are important for early detection. Dr. Jacqueline Grant of the South Health District says there are signs to look out for: Pain in one area, redness, lumps or a change in skin.
She suggests maintain a healthy weight and diet, and to avoid excessive alcohol use.
If there is a family history ask your doctor for a BRCA test.
"That strong family history of early onset breast cancer seek BRCA testing so that they can be better informed of their risk," said Dr. Grant.
The Health Department offers free or low cost breast exams.
