Indictments secured in Chehaw shooting

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Ten people have been indicted in a shooting that happened in Chehaw park back in May. Two Albany State University students were charged in connection with a shooting at Chehaw Park.

"The other persons after the shooting took place are alleged to have tried to aid the shooter by hiding the gun or guns that were alleged to have been involved in the shooting," said D. A. Greg Edwards.

Albany Police say 21 year old Bruce Burkes and 23 year old Christopher Bowman shot Shontavious Armstrong and Tevin Henry, but the aggravated assault charges against Bowman were dropped. Bowman is facing charges of criminal damage to property.

In March, police said Henry and Armstrong were shot after the gunman asked the two for a cigarette, and they replied they didn't have one. Henry was shot in the left leg and Armstrong was shot in the right leg. Park officials called it "an isolated incident."

The exit gate to the park sustained $1,000 in damage after a car rammed into it leaving the party.

Park officials say this happened during an after-hours private rental. Staff and the Albany Police Dept. were already on the scene providing security detail and were able to assist.

Burkes is charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault.

Eight others are charged with tampering with evidence.
