ALBANY, GA (WALB) - In recognition of Georgia Pre-K week, Mayor Dorothy Hubbard read a story to students at New Birth Fellowship in Albany.
Teachers say the children have been learning about the community and were excited to meet the mayor.
Kids can start Pre-K at age 4.
Students can gain math and reading skills to prepare them for future school years.
"They really learn how to interact in a school setting, so when they get ready to go to kindergarten, then they will be prepared for that transition," said Project Director Cheryhl Hill.
The kids visited the Civic Center, learned about planting flowers and pumpkins, and have more events scheduled for the rest of Pre-K Week.
