CORDELE, GA (WALB) - Savannah's port expansion will have implications all across the state, including here in southwest Georgia.
Folks at Cordele Intermodal Services are excited about the higher volume of ships that will come in.
Freight is delivered to the Cordele plant by rail lines.
"The efficiency they'll be able to realize now with these larger vessels coming into the port does nothing but make Georgia a better place to do business. If our company and facilities like this can be a part of that, everyone will benefit, the region included," said Jonathan Lafevers of Cordele Intermodal Services.
Lafevers expects the expansion will allow eight or nine large shipping vessels in the port at the same time.
