Freedom Singers honored in Atlanta

ATLANTA, GA (WALB) - The voices of Albany's Freedom Singers could be heard throughout the halls of the state capital in Atlanta Tuesday afternoon.

The Freedom Singers treated the crowd to a brief concert after receiving their Governor's Arts and Humanities Award.

Arriving back in Albany late in the day, the Freedom Singers are very proud of this honor.

Freedom Singer Rutha Harris  said. "We are so elated to receive this award. And we understand we were the best ones to ever receive the award. We got standing ovations."

  Syd Blackmarr of Tifton was also one of 13 groups or individuals to win a Governor's Arts and Humanities Award.
