CORDELE, GA (WALB) - Cordele becomes the latest city to fight prescription drug abuse in south Georgia.
The police department teamed up with CVS to offer a drop box for old or unused prescription pills. Leesburg and Sylvester have the same system in place already.
Residents are free to drop off their pills 24/7 at the city hall.
"The ultimate goal is to take a lot of unused medication out of circulation to prevent possible abuse. It just removes that temptation from people," said Chief William Hooper, Cordele PD.
Chief Hooper says disposing them here is better than throwing them away or flushing them down the toilet.
