ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Domestic violence affects thousands in Georgia every year. Albany Tech hosted the 8th annual luncheon for the Liberty House Tuesday.
The Liberty House provides shelter and services for victims of domestic violence. The director says 71 homicides have been reported as domestic violence in Georgia since October of last year. The youngest victim was six months old.
The director also criticized the way the NFL handled the Ray Rice case, and the way some media inappropriately spoke of Janay Rice by staying with an alleged abuser.
"It's never the victims fault when she is a victim of abuse we need to put the onus on the perpetrators of violence and hold them accountable," said Silke Deeley Liberty House Exec. Dir.
