Viewpoint: Child Safety Seats

Triple-A reports that three out of four child safety car seats are improperly installed.

And, as Operation Mini Thunder revealed in South Georgia, many parents aren't even using child safety seats.

Forty-nine violations were handed out in a three day period in Dougherty County in August.

Under Georgia law, a first conviction is punishable by a fine of not more than 50 dollars, and a second conviction is punishable by a fine of not more than 100 dollars.

One thousand children die every year in car crashes, and we think lawmakers need to consider implementing stiffer penalties and fines for child car seat violations.

We owe it to our children to keep them safe.
