New technology in Dougherty County schools

Leaders with the One to One Initiative give the Dougherty School Board an update on their technology plan for students and teachers.

Monday board members got hands-on demonstrations of the tablets students will start using soon.

They also learned about the online and face to face training teachers will get at their schools.

"Our external provider that we're going to be contracting with specializes in helping districts and schools move one to one and moving to a digital environment. So they specialize in making sure that the professional learning is teacher friendly, so that when teachers leave it's something that can implement and an instructional strategy that they can implement right away," said Cheryl Smith, Coordinator of Instructional Improvement.

Teachers will undergo the training between now and January.

The first students could get their tablets as early as next month.
