ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Graceway Recovery Center officially celebrated a new outreach program Monday.

The center that helps women battling addiction is now reaching out to family and friends of alcoholics and addicts. Recovery team instructors will lead group sessions and educate loved ones on the role the family plays and how they can help with long term recovery.

Counselors say they're seeing younger addicts and prescription drug abuse can progress rapidly to other abuse.

Prevention or catching an addiction early can save lives. Counselor Shannon Burke says to seek help and not feel ashamed. "If the parents don't know what to do, and they continue to enable, they don't get guidance. It can lead to darker things, and you know, hopefully, it doesn't end in death."

Master Counselor Andy Martin says, "We need to be treating everybody not just the addict and offer services to the whole system."

The six-week interactive sessions are $75 per person.
