Making goobers while the sun shines....

WORTH CO., GA (WALB) - Beautiful weather the last few days is great news for the peanut industry, and the sunshine allowed farmers to get back in their fields.

Peanut buyers are seeing more business after being nearly empty for the last couple weeks. Farmers still haven't been able to dig up some fields.

Farmers and buyers hope the nice weather will stick around.

"If it was to stay sunny for 10 days or two weeks, we'd be 75% along with our peanut harvest. It's amazing the peanuts that are rolling in now with two or three days of sunshine," said Ed Lumpkin of Doles Peanut Company.

Early estimates show farmers expect to harvest about two tons of peanuts per acre planted.
