VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - Election officials in Lowndes County have been busy over the past couple of days taking phone calls from residents wanting to make sure they are registered to vote, as the deadline to register to vote in the November election is midnight on October 6th.
"We had a lot more people calling in to check to make sure they were registered and we had an increase in the number of online voter registrations," said Devontae Battle, Administrator at the board of elections office.
He said he's anxious to see if this increase will mean an increased voter turn out during the election. "We're hopeful that means there's a higher turn out this year," Battle said. He's also anxious to see how the newly approved Sunday voting will affect voter turn out as well. "We believe that the more days people have to vote, the more people will come in. So, that extra day should bring out a higher number of people."
Residents can register online at www.mvp.sos.ga.gov, they can pick up a form from their local post office or driver services office and mail that form, or they can register on their phones my downloading the "GA Votes" app.
Early voting begins on October 13th and continues through October 31st.
