MOULTRIE, GA (WALB) - Colquitt County and Lowndes are two of the most recognized programs in Georgia high school football.
The lights may never have been brighter on this rivalry than they are Friday.
What a showdown we are set for in Moultrie.
The Packers, ranked #1 in the state, #6 in the nation, host the Vikings, who are ranked third in the AAAAAA polls.
If that wasn't enough to peak your interest, it's also the region opener for teams each with eyes on the 1-AAAAAA crown.
The animosity between these two teams is palpable, and both programs know how important winning tonight's ballgame can be.
"It's a huge game, no question," says Colquitt Co. head coach Rush Propst. "I think the winner of this game is two games up on just that one opponent."
"We've had a good week of practice," says Lowndes head coach Randy McPherson. "They understand the importance of region play, especially the first region game, so they're preparing very well."
Last season, the Packers handed Lowndes their worst home defeat under Randy McPherson, a 37-7 drubbing at Martin Stadium.
