THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - Friends of a Thomasville man are grieving after he was found dead under a bridge.
A sanitation worker discovered the body Thursday morning.
Friends and family gathered in prayer to mourn the loss of 35-year-old Travius Baker.
Thomasville Police said his body was found underneath the bridge on Madison Street.
Family members were shocked to hear the news.
Baker's Aunt Cynthia Porch said, “He was a loving person. He didn't bother anybody. And it just angers us for something to happen in a small town like this.”
Police said a sanitation worker found Baker's body around 7 a.m. while he was on his route.
The GBI took over the death investigation.
They said there are still many questions left unanswered.
GBI Special Agent Steve Turner said, “We don't know exactly why the body is there at this time, how he got there, exactly what happened to him. There are no obvious wounds that we can say caused his death at this point.”
Baker's family said he leaves behind three children.
They said the mother of his children was taken to the hospital because the news was too hard for her to handle.
Porch said, “They had to take her to the hospital. She couldn't take it.”
The family begs for answers from anyone who knows what happened.
And they believe they will soon find answers.
Porch said, “We have 100% confidence in the Thomasville Police and investigators that they'll find out and get to the bottom of what happened to Travius."
GBI said the body will be taken to Macon where examiners will conduct an autopsy.
