VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - There is a phone scam going around Valdosta and Lowndes County that Valdosta Police want you to be aware of.
The scammers call you and tell you that you have an outstanding warrant and say they will take care of it for you if you put money on a green dot card. They then give you a number to call and tell you to give the person who answers the card number.
Two Valdostans have already been scammed out of hundreds of dollars in the last couple of days.
"If you have a warrant for something such as missing grand jury, a deputy or police officer will come and serve you with the warrant. They're not gonna call you and tell you, 'hey, if you give me x amount of dollars we'll just take care of this," said Valdosta Police Department Captain Bobbi McGraw.
VPD is trying to trace the calls, but so far they haven't had much luck. Call your local law enforcement anytime you receive a suspicious phone call.
