TURNER CO., GA (WALB) - A Turner County peanut company is mourning the death of an employee who was crushed while working on a piece of equipment.
Workers examined the front-end loader that crushed 61 year old Isabel Gomez, an employee at WBT in Rebecca.
Turner County deputies say Gomez was working on the hydraulic system of a front-end loader with his brother this morning, when the lift arms fell on him.
Authorities say employees performed CPR on Gomez before paramedics arrived, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
"It's just tragic," said Sheriff Andy Hester. The guy that owns the company said that was a real good worker of his and it's just a terrible accident."
"Anytime there's a death we have to report it. So we do go out and do an investigation, took pictures and took notes and did interviews. So we've done everything that we're suppose to do when there's a death. In case something comes up later on, we got all that information," explained Hester.
Gomez's brother also got caught in the equipment, but was not injured.
Other workers used a fork lift to get the equipment off the two brothers.
The owner of the company had no comment.
