One arrested, one sought in Mitchell Co. home invasion

PELHAM, GA (WALB) - Fershaudrick LaQuinta Russell was already being held as a person of interest in a home invasion at the Hillcrest apartments that sent two victims to the hospital in Pelham late Monday night.

He is now charged with armed robbery, burglary, wearing a mask or hood in commission of a crime, carrying a pistol without a license, Possession of a firearm in the commission of a crime, and obstruction of law enforcement.

He was charged about 5:00PM Wednesday, and was denied bond.

Deputies are looking for his accomplice, who they will not name, but they say they expect an arrest soon.

Mitchell County Investigators say at least one person broke into an apartment with a gun.

"Deputies responded to the scene and spoke with victims and learned a guy had went into a house and beat two victims and robbed them with a gun,” said Inv. Kevin Sellers.

Investigators say John Willingham was visiting his friend Willie Hopkins when the robbery happened. A next door neighbor says she was standing outside when she thinks she saw the intruder.

Bernice Woodard went back inside her home and heard some noise coming from next door. Once outside Woodard heard her neighbor screaming for help from inside his home.

Woodard called 911. She and several other people told deputies they saw two people running down the street. Deputies caught one person.

Hopkins told us by telephone he's not sure how many people broke into his home. Woodard was able to give a description of one of the men she saw to investigators.

Only $50 was taken from the victims. Both victims were treated and released from the emergency room.
