All tobacco products , even e-cigarettes
are now officially prohibited inside and outside on University System of Georgia property.
Signs are posted on doors around the Darton State campus to remind folks about the ban that went into effect today.
Dr. Allia Carter says the ban is another way to help improve students' lives.
"You can't smoke, you have to do that in your personal domain and that's out of respect to the health of those around you. So I think the greater aspect of this is building a greater, healthier community whose educated about the impact of smoking and the effects it has on their lives and those around them," said Allia Carter.
Dr. Carter says the ban is needed because about 480-thousand Americans die each year from tobacco-related illnesses.
