Joy ride ruins mom's car

THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - A Thomasville teenager is in jail, accused of taking his mother's car without permission then flipping it over into a ditch.

17-year-old Dedrick Parker is charged with theft by taking a motor vehicle and driving without a license.

Police say Parker was turning into Villa North Apartments last night when he took a corner too fast and lost control then ran from the scene.

"Patrol had just arrived on scene and was investigating the accident when the owner of the vehicle came back up with her son and said 'He needs to tell you something.' And he admitted that he was driving," said Thomasville PD Detective Scott Newberry.

Parker is also being charged with failure to maintain lane and driving too fast for conditions.
