AMERICUS, GA (WALB) -

The Sumter County Sheriff's says the suspect who shot a 24-year-old man at Sunset Park in Americus was involved in a burglary at a pawn shop just weeks before.

Investigators are looking for 20-year-old Jarkeeys Leeshard Smith of Americus.

They said he shot 24-year-old Walter Carter just before 1:30 a.m. Friday at a home on Rainbow Terrace in Americus.

Carter was treated for his injuries and was expected to recover.

Sumter County Sheriff Pete Smith said Jarkees Smith is a danger to the community, and was one of two suspects who crashed into American Pawn and Jewelry in a burglary on September 11th.

Anyone with information about the burglary, the shooting, or Smith is urged to call the Sheriff's Office at 229-924-4094.
