ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A manhunt is underway for gunmen who killed one man and injured another early Monday morning in East Albany. They used multiple guns, Including at least one assault rifle, to fill a mobile home with bullets.
Police believe they know who one of the killers is, and why he did it, but they are withholding that information while their manhunt is underway.
Bullet holes scar the outside wall of a mobile home in the 600 block of Johnson Road. Police say just before 3:00AM a great number of shots were fired into the home, killing 27 year old Richard Kegler and wounding his roommate Arnold Hall in the foot.
Dougherty District Attorney Greg Edwards said, "The nature of the weapons was actually an assault type weapon."
Police say someone knocked on the door of the home, and then the volley of bullets hit the walls. Relatives tell us most of the bullet holes appear to be in the living room and bedroom walls.
"Multiple shots were fired. More than one weapon was used," Edwards said.
The D.A. says police have a definite person of interest in the murder, and they have a definite motive for the shooting.
While investigators went through the home, relatives of Kegler stood in the pouring rain outside. Kegler's brother did not want to talk on camera, but said his brother was a good man, with two children. Neighbors and relatives tell us Kegler let a man stay in the home recently to help him, and they suspect he led the shooting
Edwards is asking the community to help with information to get these killers off the streets.
Edwards said "The nature of the weapons used actually put everybody in danger. I can say that. So I think everyone should be, if they have some information, they should help the police with this."
Hall was treated and released at the hospital. Ricky Kegler is the fourth murder victim in Albany this year. If you have any information about this murder, call CRIMESTOPPERS at 436-TIPS.
