LAKELAND, GA (WALB) - South Georgia olive growers are educating new olive growers on how they can help expand the industry in Georgia and across the South.
Olive growers and those interested in becoming olive growers met at a conference in Lakeland Thursday. They shared information with each other and got to hear from researchers and government agencies working to help expand the industry.
"It takes educating those new farmers so that they can get in and put those idle crop lands to use and create some farm gate income," said Quinton Robinson, State Director for Rural Development.
The United States is the third largest national market for olive oil in the world.
