DONALSONVILLE, GA (WALB) - A severely neglected dog is getting the care it desperately needs, thanks to some caring animal lovers and Facebook.
A woman saw the dog limping down a dirt road in Seminole County and reached out for help through social media.
Amanda Johnson summed it up: "She's a miracle. She made it this far; she'll survive. Why not name her Miracle?"
Johnson and her friend Theresa Chastain said they knew they had to do something after seeing a picture of a badly abused and neglected dog on Facebook. Jennifer Howell took a picture and shared it on the Georgia Wildlife Rescue Page.
"I felt so sorry for her. And I couldn't just leave her here. So I figured Facebook would maybe help somebody," said Howell.
Howell was driving to work when she saw the dog. She said her heart broke to see her condition.
"She wasn't anything but skin and bones. Her legs were swollen and red. She wasn't good," said Howell.
A neighbor said they saw a man dump the dog out of a truck in a remote area earlier this week. Wednesday night Johnson went out looking for the dog, but she had no luck until Thursday morning when she found Miracle.
"It brought tears to my eyes how someone could just do this to a dog," said Johnson.
The women said they found the dog hiding under grass, just to keep her hairless body warm.
Johnson made her intentions clear Thursday.
"We're gonna take her and give her the help that she needs."
