WARWICK, GA (WALB) - Warwick city leaders will invest in the new fire department protecting the area.
The city will pay $30,000 to purchase and maintain equipment. The city attorney says the payment is part of an agreement between the city and county established in 1999 and re-affirmed in 2008.
"The County voted to allocate money for paid staff," said Tommy Coleman, Warwick City Attorney. "We're fulfilling our obligation under this Service Delivery Strategy agreement to provide certain equipment and the maintenance of that equipment."
The county is paying $138,000 annually to operate a fully-manned fire station. The city was asked to help with that funding.
When Warwick leaders declined, county leaders decided to take on the full cost to re-open the station.
