FITZGERALD, GA (WALB) - 123 middle school students around Georgia signed college scholarships Wednesday.
First Lady Sandra Deal visited Ben Hill County Middle School Wednesday afternoon to welcome three of those students into the REACH program.
REACH stands for Realizing Educational Achievement Can Happen.
The students and their parents signed contracts.
The students will get the scholarship money if they graduate high school with at least a 2.5 GPA.
The need-based scholarships were awarded to students in 18 systems in Georgia.
“It feels really great. I don't have to worry about how to get money for college,” said Kirsten Bowden.
“Be leaders in their schools and to attend school and graduate from high school with the idea that they will be able to go to college,” said Sandra Deal.
Sandra Deal also visited schools in Ashburn and Douglas.
Governor Nathan Deal visited schools in the Atlanta area.
