THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - Thomas County investigators are thankful a baby monitor may have prevented a burglary and encourage you to find ways to improve security at your home.

We told you Tuesday night about a father who heard a burglar breathing over his daughter's baby monitor.

He found the window in her room cracked.

Thomas County Sheriff's Chief Investigator Lieutenant Tim Watkins said you can find multiple uses for some products to help keep your family safe.

Lieutenant Watkins said, “There's equipment out there that homeowners can actually use.  The purpose for it is something totally different, like the baby monitor, but it can actually be used as video tape.”

Watkins said more people are installing deer cameras to catch criminals in the act.

He also recommended motion-sensored lights and nanny-cams for cheap but effective security.
